Why Videos Actually Go Viral (It’s not what you think)

We’re commonly told that videos go viral for certain reasons, like being “controversial” or “shocking”, but in reality, that doesn’t always add up.

There are plenty of people on TikTok or Instagram that make controversial videos or disseminate egregious opinions about things and end up, well… talking to a wall.

So how exactly do you create a formula to consistently go viral?

How to Consistently Go Viral

While it’s not reasonable to expect to go viral EVERY time, I have been able to CONSISTENTLY generate well over 2,000,000 video views a month on my TikTok, with a total post views of 2,800,000 over the past 28 days.

I’ve done this by following a simple of set of principles, that all fall down to one word – value.

A piece of content has to absolutely, without any shadow of a doubt be more valuable to a viewer than they could have expected when they first saw it. Given that my account is in the fitness niche, I find that whenever I delve into an intriguing or experimental piece of CURRENT research, it does extremely well. I’ve also noticed that whenever I jump into unique anecdotes about people in the fitness industry who do unique things, it does extremely well.

Why?

What about the novelty triggers people to watch and comment?

Value. The novelty of the research or the intrigue that running an experiment in the hypertrophy-niche creates is too irresistible and too inherently valuable to a viewer who cares about the industry to simply skip.

That is how I consistently go viral multiple times per month.

How to Leverage This Opportunity

The best sort of “no brainer” option in my view is to figure out extremely unique angles and intriguing approaches to get new viewers to find value in listening to you say it.

That’s really all it boils down to – does someone find your premise VALUABLE ENOUGH to stick around and watch the whole thing?

For an example, in the fitness industry, just posting your physique or an opinion about creatine is not enough to peak that level of interest. You’ll end up sounding like every other TikTok creator with 400 followers.

You need to leverage the idea of being unique and peak interest in a way most people aren’t able to in order to consistently go viral.
