How I Used TikTok to Get on Dr. Phil Primetime

It’s commonly said that going viral on TikTok is a matter of time.

While oftentimes that’s true, there’s merit in sometimes trying to be a little bit more

deliberate with your actions.

That’s been my gameplan over the past couple of years on TikTok, and has allowed me to

get over 25,000,000 views in the past year alone on my TikTok account.

This actually resulted in me getting flown out to Texas and featured on Dr. Phil Primetime

as a personal trainer, which I still sometimes have a hard time believing.

But how was I able to do this?

How can we be more deliberate in our content? How to be Deliberate with Your Content

Being deliberate with the content you produce is not limited to just scripting videos or

editing your content.

A lot of times, over-scripting and over-editing can actually cause more harm than good.

This is because the magic is actually in the ideation of the content – what IDEA are you

sharing with the audience?

In efforts to build my personal brand, which is personal training (specifically in the

hypertrophy niche), I have over the years found a few topics that just seem to work.

These topics are specific enough that they relate to my brand and make page unique, yet

broad and controversial enough to have a lasting impact on my audience and spark

controversy.

One of those subjects is diet soda, which I’ve talked about many times on my page.

I routinely defend diet soda as a completely valid inclusion in one’s diet, and even go as far

as to explain that I drink a gallon of it a day – and yes, I think it’s completely fine.

This opinion is controversial and unpopular, which despite my steadfast belief in it, draws

a lot of controversy to my page.

One of my videos in defense of it caught the attention of Dr. Phil’s staff, and led to them

reaching out to me to be a guest on the show.

I was flown out to Fort Worth, Texas and it was an absolutely amazing experience. The

episode, Appetite for Destruction: Is Our Food Killing Us? aired recently – all because of

one TikTok I made about a controversial belief I have.

But once again – that isn’t always by accident.

I deliberately make videos about topics I KNOW spark debate, as the more debate there is,

the more comments and views I’ll get.

How You Can Use TikTok to be DeliberateOne of the best things I’d recommend to anyone looking to get started with TikTok and

actually make a meaningful impact with your content is to make videos for a month that

feel right.

Don’t over-science it yet – just make content that feels right.

After a month, look at your videos that performed the best and write down ideas as to WHY

you think they performed the best.

Put all of these ideas into a document titled “brainstorm”, and revisit that document

frequently to give you ideas.

You can also put your brainstorming into ChatGPT, and prompt the AI to give you potential

explanations for why certain videos performed differently than others.

Once you have all of this brainstorming laid out, you can still be quite spontaneous with

your videos – you’ll just be “spontaneous” about the RIGHT things.

Being spontaneous about the right subject matter and right ideas outweighs being

excessively planned with boring subject matter and bad ideas.
